Val originally trained as a Stage Manager in musical theatre and got to travel all over the UK and Europe with different shows. After ten years she left and joined the army, and trained to be a paramedic and physical training instructor. In 2002 Val joined Surrey Ambulance service (now part of South East Coast Ambulance Service) where she trained to be a paramedic again!
In her eight years in South East Coast Ambulance Service Val had a number of roles including Trainer, Community Responder Manager and finally Clinical Team Leader. In 2010 Val moved to Great Western Ambulance Service (now South Western Ambulance Service) to join the HART team where she stayed for five years, spending some of that time as a HART instructor. In 2014 Val progressed to the role of Operations Officer, initially based in Bristol and most recently in Plymouth.
Val is one of the founder members of the National Ambulance LGBT Network and has taken an active part in moving it forward. In 2017 Val facilitated one of the very well received workshops at the national conference on the subject of Making Every Contact Count.
