Alex joined the LAS in 2002 as a Trainee Emergency Medical Technician whilst studying, before graduating from the University of Hertfordshire in 2004 and coming to work full time as a Paramedic. Since then, he has worked in a variety of roles including providing clinical telephone advice, as a London HEMS Paramedic and working as a Duty Officer.

Alex took his first frontline management post in 2008 and what he most enjoyed was being able to provide staff with clinical supervision and guidance at the scene of difficult or complex incidents. After returning to frontline paramedic work to mentor pre-qualification staff, and then spending some time back as a station manager, Alex moved to the role of Quality, Governance and Assurance Manager for North Central London.

Alex reflected on when he first started working for the LAS and said that, 'It’s always a bit nerve wracking when you start a new job, but I found that the Service was supportive to new staff and my sexuality was never a barrier'. Pride 2017 article here.
